Here at Guidepost Dental Practice we understand the importance of being able to smile. We pride ourselves on being able to provide our patients with the best possible treatments, so with this in mind all the dentures constructed at our practice are made by our Clinical Dental Technician Alan Forrest.
-
Alan is a registered Dental Care Professional who is trained and qualified to provide a range of denture services direct to our patients – services that were previously only available through your Dentist.
As well as working as one of our team, Alan also operates from his own independent clinic. His main priority is to deliver the highest standards of care, putting the interests of his patients first.
Working directly with the patient allows Alan to see your full facial features before any dentures are created. He is able to talk to you, discussing your needs and requirements, keeping you informed through out the design stages. With this process, Alan is able to fulfil your wishes by providing you with functional, naturally looking dentures tailored to your needs.
Services Alan can offer:
-
Complete upper and lower dentures
If you are experiencing the loss of all your natural teeth either on the top or the bottom jaw, Alan can give you back your confidence with Complete Dentures.
As well as effecting daily activities like eating, talking and even laughing, total tooth loss can impact heavily on self-esteem and quality of life. Alan can create and fit complete dentures that will replace all your missing teeth, not only giving you your smile back, but also:
- Improving the clarity to your speech
- Helping you to feel more secure about eating the foods you want
- Supporting sagging facial muscles and sunken features that can make you appear older (especially around your mouth, lips and cheeks)
- Removing the need for denture fixative and denture adhesive
Before your first appointment, we encourage you to bring a photograph taken before you lost your natural teeth in order for Alan to understand how you want your teeth to look. This way he can make them look similar to the teeth you have lost.

Partial Dentures
If one or several of your teeth are lost or missing, Alan restores your smile with a Partial Denture. By replacing your individual missing teeth, he can give you back the look and function of a full set of healthy, natural teeth.
As well as replacing any missing teeth, a partial denture can also look after the future health of your mouth by preventing your remaining teeth from rotating, tilting and moving into positions that prove unsightly and awkward for eating and talking.
Alan can create and fit your partial denture this will not only give you your smile back but:
- Help you form words more clearly
- Make eating more comfortable, helping you to enjoy food
- Enhancing your appearance by restoring your natural smile
- Preserve the health and appearance of any remaining teeth so you can keep smiling
-
Valplast Dentures
If you wear a partial denture and have experienced problems with your denture moving around or you do not like its appearance, you might want to consider switching to a Valplast denture. Alan can design, make and fit your Valplast denture, creating the right restoration solution for you.
Durable, comfortable and light-weight, Valplast dentures are made from a translucent flexible nylon material that picks up underlying gum colours, making them almost impossible to detect in the mouth. With a Valplast denture, no metal clasps or clips are needed on tooth surfaces which will improve the overall appearance of your mouth.
The material used is from the nylon family It´s a stronger and more flexible compared to the plastic used in other kinds of dentures.
Just like conventional Partial Dentures, your Valplast dentures will offer you the following benefits:
- Help you form words, clarifying your speech
- Make eating more comfortable, helping you to enjoy food
- Enhancing your appearance by restoring your natural smile
- Preserve the health and appearance of any remaining teeth so you can keep smiling
-
Implant Retained Dentures
If you suffer with dentures that wobble, tilt or rub, we can help by eliminating your sore spots and embarrassing moments with implant retained dentures, the long-term solution to tooth loss.
Implant retained dentures consist of small titanium screws that act as a substitute for the root portions of your missing teeth in either your upper or your lower jaw. The titanium implant will gently fuse with your jawbone. Then your complete dentures or partial dentures are attached to your new root, providing you with greater stability than ever before.
Working closely together to create the solution that is right for your individual needs, Josie Fretwell and Alan will provide you with a more secure fit and feel than ever before. With implant retained dentures, you can talk, eat and laugh freely without having worry about what your dentures are doing.
Step by Step Guide to Having Dentures Made
During your first appointment, with Alan he will undertake a detailed clinical evaluation so he can reach a diagnosis in order to create a detailed treatment plan that is tailored exactly to your needs.
He may undertake one or all of the following:
- Investigate your dental and medical history in full
- Take x-rays and photographic images of your mouth
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal effects of aging, especially relating to tooth loss
- Make referrals to other dental professionals where necessary (for Partial dentures)
- Advise you on how to take care of your Dentures and achieve optimum oral health
Alan will describe the different types of dentures available and the technical procedures involved so you can make an informed choice about the treatment you receive. Together, you and Alan can then decide upon the right course of action for you.
From this appointment Alan will then need you to visit several more times for him to take measurements, these include a series of impressions of the inside of you mouth, so he can see the shape of you soft tissues. Alan will also register your bite so he can see how your teeth meet together. From these measurements he will be able to create a mock up of how the teeth will look, at this stage you can try in the teeth and give your opinion on how they look. If you are happy with this mock up Alan will then go on to finish your teeth ready for you wear and ‘Live Life with a Smile’

If you have experienced total tooth loss, you can be treated by Alan directly, and he can construct your complete dentures. However, if you need a partial denture or you have Dental Implants or some of your own natural teeth remaining, you must first be seen or referred by your Dentist before Alan can begin your treatment.
Alan has many years experience working as Clinical Dental Technician, and has advanced technical and clinical skills needed to carefully design and hand-craft every denture to your individual requirements. In order to operate legally in the UK, Alan has to undergo rigorous training and evaluation. Alan has following credentials:
- Graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons England
- Holds a Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology
- Is registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Technician and CDT
